New Library Catalog System Starting Oct. 6
The thirty-seven public libraries in the Morris Automated Information Network (M.A.I.N.) have begun a change to a new online catalog system. Please be patient during any temporary inconveniences caused by this move.
What to expect during the transition:
- New copies of items can’t be added to the library catalog until October 6.
- You must have a library card with you to check out any items from October 3 to 5. We will be using an offline system then and will have no access to borrower records.
Best new features of the catalog starting October 6:
- The hold system for requests will give you more control over your own account. Once you sign in using both your library barcode and your PIN, you won’t have to re-enter those numbers each time you place a request. You will be able to see a list of your hold requests, and you will be able to cancel them or suspend them while you are away or temporarily too busy. You will be able to pick up hold requests at more locations.
- You will be able to renew your own items if no one else has placed a hold on them.
- You may receive automatic notification by e-mail or phone when your hold requests are ready to be picked up or when items are coming due.
- Catalog searches should have a faster response time.
- You will have the choice of searching for children’s or adult items on popular subjects by clicking on pictures instead of typing words.
- You can look through lists of best sellers and award-winning books and find out which we own.
If you want tips on how to use all the new features, watch for announcements of future tutoring sessions on the new catalog.
