Download from home and acquire a license

Download an audiobook to your home computer and save the file to the location of your choice. Before disconnecting your Internet connection, open the file in Windows Media Player to acquire the license. The license allows you to listen to the audiobook for 21 days and to copy it to two additional portable listening devices. Read the Quick Start Guide  for details on downloading and the Going Portable guide  for details on transferring to a portable device (requires Adobe Reader).

Transfer to a portable player

Many players on the market are designed primarily for use with music. To ensure that your portable device will play audiobooks, look for the “PlaysForSure” logo on the device’s packaging, and make sure that both “Download” and “Subscription” are checked under “Audio.” Functions important for audiobooks include:

Renew license

You can renew an audiobook one time by extending the license to play the file for another 21 days. Under “My Checked Out Items,” click on “Download this Audiobook” and then “Renew your checkout.”

Delete

You will not be able to play the audiobook after the license expires. The file remains on your personal computer and portable listening device and must be manually deleted. You can delete an audiobook file in the same manner as you delete other files.
