Do you listen to audiobooks while
commuting, jogging, or folding your laundry?
Are you sometimes too busy to go to the library
to return your audiobooks and borrow more?
The Randolph Library is pleased to announce a new, convenient, and flexible service for its patrons—downloadable audiobooks from Recorded Books and NetLibrary.
Starting Monday, May 1, 2006, we will offer over a thousand digital audiobook titles, including bestsellers such as David McCullough’s 1776 and Alexander McCall Smith’s The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, classics such as Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, book club favorites such as Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner, and the award-winning Pimsleur language series. More titles will be added monthly from Recorded Books, a leading producer of high-quality unabridged audiobooks that are narrated by professional actors.
NetLibrary audiobooks work on any desktop or laptop computer or portable device that supports copy-protected Windows Media Audio (WMA) files. You can transfer your favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices, including music players, media centers, Pocket PCs, and even select smart phone devices. However, they cannot be downloaded to Macs or transferred to iPods at this point in time.
Check out the benefits of this new technological advance:
- Anytime, anywhere access
After an initial visit to the library to set up a NetLibrary account, you can use this service from your home computer by entering your username and password, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Borrow a title whenever you’re ready to listen.
- Free
A NetLibrary account is free. There are no membership/annual fees, maintenance costs, or hidden charges associated with your account. The NetLibrary web site provides access to the collection your library has purchased.
- Unlimited copies
You have access to the largest collection of unabridged downloadable audiobooks in the world without having to wait. You can borrow up to 10 titles at one time.
- Never a fine
Titles simply cease to play after the 21-day loan period, or you may renew for one additional loan period.
- Easy to use
You simply log on to NetLibrary, browse the extensive list of audiobooks, and download the one you want. It’s as easy as 1-2-3! Downloading is available without any special software, with either dial-up or high speed Internet access.
- Fast download times
You can download the highest quality 10-hour audiobook in under 13 minutes via cable modem.
Library staff will be glad to answer any questions and help you get started using this new service.
