Deer Population Count
Posted: March 26, 2015
The Randolph Township Wildlife Management Advisory Committee (WMAC) will be conducting a deer count on the following dates: March 31, April 8 and April 14, 2015.
All deer count sessions will take place during evening hours, from approximately 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each night.
During the active deer count, residents may see a slow moving van going at about 10 mph with WMAC members shining strong, hand-held spotlights across lawns and in nearby woods.
The count data collection is only possible at night because the powerful spotlights will reflect off the deer’s eyes to provide a visible glow. The count team will also use small laser instruments to accurately measure distances used in the final calculations.
The team will send the deer count data to the NJ Bureau of Wildlife Management biologist for computer processing resulting in a deer population report for Randolph.
The Randolph Township Police Department has been informed about the deer count activity and will receive updates if any schedule changes occur.
