Fire Department Welcomes New Truck
Posted: September 15, 2005
The Randolph Township Fire Department recently took delivery of a 2005 American La France 1,500 gallon per minute pumper. This vehicle is assigned to the Ironia Fire Company No. 4 located at 331 Dover Chester Road.
It replaces a 1978 Mack pumper that will be traded in to the manufacturer. This new vehicle has been designed as the first engine out to all emergency calls in the Company 4 service area. It carries 750 gallons of water and seats eight firefighters. In a departure from the traditional white over red colors of the Ironia apparatus, this new truck sports a black roof and red body.
The purchase of this vehicle will help the township maintain its Class 4 Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating. This rating is used by insurance companies to establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties.
The ISO rates the ability of a fire department to protect property from fire based on many factors, including its equipment, water supply system, staffing, training and the geographic distribution of fire companies. Ratings range from Class 1 to Class 10; Class 1 is the best and Class 10 indicates that an area’s fire-suppression program doesn’t meet ISO’s minimum criteria. As of this writing, there are only forty-six Class 1 fire departments in the country.
Our Class 4 ISO rating places the fire department in the top ten percent of fire departments nationwide and translates into lower fire insurance premiums for homeowners and businesses in Randolph.
