Please be advised that there is a new law, effective December 31, 2005, which requires any person engaged in the business of making or selling home improvements to be registered with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.
Home improvements include, but are not limited to, installation, replacement, or repair of the following:

- windows and doors
- finished basements
- fire/security protection devices
- heating and air conditioning equipment

The building department will be checking for the registration number when issuing building permits.
Home improvement contractors can find registration information and the application packet at the DCA website. For additional information, contact Consumer Affairs at 1.888.656.6225.
