Home Improvement Law May Affect Residents

Please be advised that there is a new law, effective December 31, 2005, which requires any person engaged in the business of making or selling home improvements to be registered with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.
Home improvements include, but are not limited to, installation, replacement, or repair of the following:
- residential driveways
- sidewalks
- swimming pools
- patios
- additions
- landscaping
- fences, porches
- windows and doors
- kitchens
- cabinets
- bathrooms
- garages
- finished basements
- fire/security protection devices
- heating and air conditioning equipment
- heaters
- water systems
- roofing and siding
- wall-to-wall carpeting
- flooring
The Building Department will be checking for the registration number when issuing building permits.
