Items Sought for Operation Shoebox

Mt. Freedom Presbyterian Church has joined forces with Operation Shoebox to collect food and personal care items to send to soldiers serving overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A collection box will be placed in the main lobby of the municipal building beginning Monday, August 22nd and it will remain until Tuesday, September 6th. Residents can drop off items during business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The following items are being sought—the goal is to pack 250 care packages which means 250 of each item will be needed.

  • moist wipes
  • tooth brush/floss
  • small bottles of shampoo (2-4 oz. travel size)
  • mouthwash
  • athletic/crew socks—multipack
  • tooth paste
  • razors—must be in original pack, not opened or repacked
  • deodorant (non-aerosol)
  • cotton swabs (travel size or bulk)
  • sun block (non-aerosol)
  • tissues (small purse size packages)
  • eye drops (0.5 oz.)
  • insect repellant (non aerosol: individual towelettes)
  • lip balm
  • batteries, all sizes (original packing—no larger than 4 packs)
  • hand cream
  • bars of soap (multipacks can be broken down)
  • hand sanitizer
  • powder (2 or 4 oz. travel size)
  • beanie babies (soldiers give to local kids)
  • playing cards and magazines
  • DVDs
  • powdered drink mixes (small individual serve)
  • gum and tic tacs
  • instant oatmeal (full boxes or individual packages)
  • candy (no chocolate)
  • cereal (small individual 1.5 or 2 oz. boxes)
  • ramen noodles
  • hot chocolate (boxes or individual packages)
  • small cans of tuna w/pop tops
  • microwave popcorn—boxes that contain individual bags
  • tea bags
  • fruit/applesauce w/pop tops—small cans
  • instant coffee—single serve packs
  • small bags of peanuts, trail mix, pretzels
  • cereal/snack/granola bars

Other items needed for packing and distribution of care packages:

  • Ziploc gallon bags (2 per box for personal and food items—need 500)
  • Ziploc small sandwich size bags (for socks and small toys—need 500+)
  • Ziploc snack size bags (to breakdown items purchase in bulk—need 500+)
