Final Update on Power Outages

Old Brookside—Electric service has been restored by JCP&L. Verizon is on scene and will be followed by Cablevision. The road should open to traffic late today.

Everdale—JCP&L removed downed lines and replaced a transformer restoring power. Verizon and Cablevision are now working on their lines. The road should open to traffic later today.

Radtke—Public Works has cleared tree debris. Once Verizon and Cablevision address downed lines the road can be opened for traffic.

If you are still without power this afternoon, report your outage to JCP&L at 1-800-544-4877.

The township will post information on a special branch collection tomorrow. The program will begin Monday, June 18 concentrating first on the Shongum section.

As noted above, this is the final posting on power outages.


Updated 6-12-2012 8:00 a.m.

The below update was provided by JCP&L and the Randolph Township Police Department.

Power has been restored throughout much of the township as of this morning. Several pockets remain without power and crews are now concentrating on those areas.

JCP&L indicates that about 30 Randolph residents are without power. Many of the remaining outages are associated with the Old Brookside Road section.

Brookside is now open to traffic.

Radtke—JCP&L restored power to much of Shongum. Radtke remains closed to traffic. Awaiting Cablevison and Verizon to address downed lines.

Old Chimney and Timber—JCP&L restored power to much of Shongum during the night. Awaiting Cablevision and Verizon to address downed lines.

Everdale—Remains closed between Shongum and Mountainside. A JCP&L crew has been dispatched to address lines on the ground.

Old Brookside—Closed to traffic, JCP&L will be working through the morning to restore power.

As JCP&L clears streets from electrical hazards, both Cablevision and Verizon must address their lines. Randolph DPW follows to clear tree hazards.

We expect that the remaining projects will continue through the day.

If you do not have power at this time, JCP&L encourages you to contact their call center at 1-888-544-4877 to ensure that your outage is re-listed.

The Randolph YMCA indicates that their shower facilities are available to Randolph residents without power through the day today.

JCP&L continues to make bottled water and ice available to Randolph residents at the Shop-Rites in Wharton and Dover through the day as well.

The Randolph Library opens at 10 a.m. and all citizens are welcome to recharge their cell phones and iPads.

JCP&L has provided an update regarding their work in Randolph.

Oak Drive and Cedar Terrace power is restored.

Randolph Avenue has been opened to traffic; electrical work continues.

Oak Lane power is restored.

Brookside Road power has been restored, however, the road will remain closed until a damaged pole replacement is completed.

Radtke Road power restoration is targeted for 10 p.m. but may go later. The road is not expected to open until tomorrow at midday.

Old Chimney at Timber Lane is still scheduled for 10 p.m. Lateral lines coming off the main line will be worked on through the night.

Old Brookside damage is extensive. Power restoration and road opening have been scheduled for midday Tuesday.

Everdale between Shongum and Mountainside has a crew being dispatched to address the wires on the ground. Upon clearing the wires, the road will be opened.

JCP&L indicates that power restoration will continue through the night. The next update will be at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

JCP&L has provided an update on the repair of electric lines.

Verizon is setting poles on Radtke and on Old Chimney at Timber Lane. The lines will go hot on or before 10 p.m. impacting 650 residents. No additional information has been received on Brookside, Old Brookside or Randolph Avenue. A crew has been dispatched to Oak Drive and Cedar Terrace. Oak Lane has been opened.

JCP&L continues to offer free bottled water and ice at Shop-Rites in Wharton and Dover. The Randolph YMCA has opened its facilities for residents to take showers. The Randolph Y is open until 10 p.m. and reopens Tuesday morning at 5:30 a.m.

The library will be open until 9 p.m. for recharging of cell phones and iPADS.

The next update will occur at 8 p.m.

JCP&L has provided a noon update on the repair of electric lines.

Sections of Shongum are now targeted for power restoration by 10 p.m. due to the number of Verizon poles that must be replaced.

The below information will be updated again at 6 p.m.:

  • Radke Road complete by 10 p.m.
  • Old Chimney and Timber complete by 10 p.m.
  • Sussex Turnpike near Canfield should be restored shortly
  • Cedar Terrace and Oak Drive complete by 6 p.m.
  • Oak Lane by 7 p.m.
  • Randolph Ave. by Dogwood—no update
  • Brookside—no update
  • Old Brookside—no update

JCP&L is offering free bottled water at Shop-Rites in Wharton (Route 15) and Dover (Route 46).

The Randolph YMCA has opened their facility for residents to take showers. The Randolph Y is open until 10 p.m. and reopens at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

JCP&L advises that they are targeting major outage areas of Randolph at this time. The below information was provided at 8:45 a.m.:

  • Radtke Rd. impacting 354 homes complete by 1 p.m.
  • Shongum Rd. impacting 295 homes complete by 10 a.m.
  • Sussex near Canfield impacting 71 being assessed
  • Cedar Terrace and Oak Drive 33 homes by 12 noon
  • Old Chimney at Timber being assessed
  • Brookside Road being assessed
  • Old Brookside being assessed

The next JCP&L update is planned for 1 p.m. They believe that most outages will be repaired by day’s end.


Updated 6-11-2012 7:30 a.m.

Crews have been working throughout the night to restore electric service and remove downed wires from roads. Police, fire, public works and JCP&L are working at this hour and through today to get Randolph open. Nine line crews from JCP&L are in Randolph with additional help to arrive in the next hour.

As of 6:45 a.m., about 700 homes are without service. JCP&L will update its website during the day. The hardest hit area is Shongum where several roads have lines and poles down including a major feed into the underground service.

As electrical lines are cleared, DPW will open the road. Our goal today is to get roads open. Trees are being pushed to the side for later clean up. Catch basins are being cleared in anticipation of additional showers tomorrow. We expect a number of calls for branch collections. Information will be posted on the website later in the week.

The public works recycling center will be open all week to accept tree debris.

The Board of Education has announced that only the Shongum Elementary School will be closed for the day. All other schools are on a delayed opening.


Posted 6-10-2012 11:45 p.m.

A severe squall moved through the area at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening. JCP&L has identified four major outages affecting over 1,100 of the 1,500 residents without power. They have assigned crews to each of the trouble spots. Additional utility crews are moving into the area over the next hour to begin addressing many electrical outages affecting local roads throughout Randolph. It is anticipated that significant progress will be made before dawn on the restoration of power.

Police and fire are working throughout the evening to address trouble spots and safety issues.

Six houses were hit by trees in Randolph during the storm. Route 10 West was closed due to flooding for several hours. No reports of injuries were received immediately following the storm. However, hazards especially downed power lines, continue to pose a significant threat to the community through the evening hours.

The Board of Education has announced a delayed opening for Monday and will reassess conditions in the early morning hours in consultation with the police department.

As power lines are repaired, streets will be cleared of debris so as to restore traffic. As of 11:00 p.m. Sunday evening, the below listed streets are impacted by closures:
