Update on the Sussex Turnpike Improvement Project
Posted: September 2, 2016
The Morris County Department of Planning and Public Works has released an updated schedule regarding the Sussex Turnpike Improvement Project.
According to the information provided by the county, the project’s completion was delayed by the utility company’s relocation of utility poles and wiring in the month of August, however, this work is now underway and they are anticipating that the road work impacting traffic flow will be finished by early October.
Details on the updated schedule provided by the county:
- September 1 - 16: Optimum and Verizon completion of pole and wiring relocation
- September 12 - 23: General contractor completion of remaining curb and sidewalk installation
- September 26 - October 14: General contractor completion of road resurfacing and line striping
- October - December: General contractor completion of landscaping, off-road improvements and punch list work
The ongoing construction activities combined with the reopening of school and normal commuting patterns will likely cause increased congestion in the Mount Freedom area of Sussex Turnpike during the morning and evening rush hours (7:00 - 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.) through early October. Residents are encouraged to choose alternate routes or to allow extra time when traveling through this area during these time periods.
The Sussex Turnpike Improvement Project is a Morris County project under the direction of the Morris County Department of Planning and Public Works. All questions or concerns about the project should be directed to the Morris County Office of Engineering and Transportation at 973.285.6758.
