Find a New Home For Your Old Bike

Posted: June 12, 2011

In conjunction with the nonprofit organization Pedals for Progress, the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA) will be collecting used bicycles on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. The event will take place in Parking Lot #1 at the County College of Morris.

Pedals for Progress ships the used bicycles overseas to countries in Latin America, Africa and the Pacific Islands. The bikes are then reconditioned by partner agencies and distributed at low cost to poor working adults who need reliable transportation.

A $10.00 fee per bicycle is required to help defray the costs associated with shipping, rebuilding and distributing each bicycle. All cash and material donations are fully tax-deductible and a receipt will be available at the collection site.

A few other items such as bicycle helmets and working sewing machines, both electric and non-electric, are acceptable, but the only charge is for bicycles and sewing machines ($20.00/sewing machine).

The following cannot be accepted:

  • bikes for parts only
  • disassembled bikes
  • bikes with bent or very rusty frames
  • tricycles
  • other sporting goods
