On July 2, 2009 at 7:03 a.m., officers responded to a three car crash at the intersection of Center Grove and Quaker Church roads. Responding officers were advised that the driver and the passenger of one of the vehicles involved had fled the scene on foot. With the assistance of the Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, officers searched the area but were unable to locate the two males. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the vehicle operated by the fleeing suspects, a 1999 Volkswagen Passat, was stolen from Dover and not yet reported as stolen to the Dover Police Department.
A witness to the crash described the two individuals who fled the scene as Hispanic males; one wore a tan jacket and carried a backpack.
Officer Melissa Bailey is the lead officer on the investigation and she was assisted by Sgt. Scott Arentowicz and Detective Sergeant William Yarzab.
