This police blotter is not intended to be inclusive of all crimes and arrests reported to the Randolph Township PD. A charge is an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty. If you have any questions regarding anything published herein, please contact Lt. At 1:44 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Woodmont Drive for a domestic dispute. The complaint stated that she had gotten a phone call from her husband looking for some documents. When she advised him she did not know where the documents were, he came to the location and they engaged in a verbal argument during which time other members of the caller’s family were harassed. The caller wished no further action.

At 12:00 p.m., Officer Michael Kavanaugh took a report form a resident of Iron Forge Lane regarding vandalism to her car. The victim reported that she had parked her car in the Kmart Plaza between 11:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. during which time an unknown person(s) scratched the paint on her car.

- Charged: Ester Hanna, age 42 of Randolph NJ
Officer Matthew Pfeiffer stopped the accused on Route 10 at 9:28 a.m. after running a random check on the license plate on the car she was operating and found that the registered owner’s license was expired. Ms. Hanna provided Officer Pfeiffer with a fraudulent international driver’s license. She also provided a false name. She was issued a special complaint at the scene of the stop and released.

Police were called to Pump It Up at 10 Middlebury Blvd. on a report of a burglary. The front glass door had been smashed. The office was ransacked and cash was stolen. A vending machine was also broken into and the cash inside stolen. The burglary took place between 9:05 p.m. on Saturday and 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. Any persons with information about this burglary are urged to call the Randolph Police.

Police took a harassment complaint from a resident of Fordice St. The victim stated he had received a death threat from the ex-boyfriend of the woman he is now dating.

- Charged: Two male juvenile residents of Randolph NJ
Police were dispatched to the area of the Randolph Trails trail head off Mountainside Drive. Patrols located two male juveniles sitting in a parked vehicle. While speaking with the juveniles, it was learned that there was marijuana inside the vehicle. Both juveniles were arrested and turned over to their parents.

At 11:06 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Meadowbrook Road on a complaint of trespassing. The resident advised officers that a large group of juveniles had been located on the deck to the rear of the house. In addition, two male juveniles had broken into the house through an upstairs window. When confronted by the resident, the two males fled, damaging a counter in the kitchen as they ran through the house.

At 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Cedar Ridge Lane on a domestic violence case. The 30-year-old son and the homeowner became involved in a physical altercation. The son agreed to be transported to Morristown Memorial hospital for a psychological evaluation. He was transported by Officer Stephen Kepler.

At 3:10 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Wilkeshire Boulevard on a complaint of a physical confrontation between a parent and child. Patrols were advised that over the last several months the family has been trying to deal with some difficult issues. The teenager involved was belligerent with police. The child also contacted DYFS and a case worker responded to the scene. The DYFS case worker ordered the teenager to be transported to St. Clare’s for a mental health review. Officer Stephen Zenes transported the teenager to St. Clare’s.

- Charged: Janine T. Barone, age 24 of Parsippany NJ
Officer Brett Sommer observed a vehicle operated by the accused traveling west on Route 10 near Jennifern Avenue. The vehicle was observed to be drifting over the lane markings. The car was stopped on Route 10 near the Sussex Turnpike ramp. It took the driver several attempts to supply the documents that the officer requested. Officer Sommer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath as she spoke to him. She was asked to perform several field sobriety tests and as a result of these tests she was placed under arrest. She was transported to Randolph PD where she provided samples of her breath for chemical analysis. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to maintain a lane. She was released to a friend.

Police were advised by a resident of Harmony Road that she had received numerous harassing phone calls on her cell phone over the last week.

- Charged: Nicholas J Hagens, age 22 of Dover NJ
At 11:50 p.m., Officer Shawn Boyhan observed a black Honda westbound on Route 10 near South Morris Street. The vehicle was observed to be swerving and changing lanes abruptly. Officer Boyhan stopped the vehicle on Route 10 near Center Grove Road. Officer Boyhan detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the operator’s breath as he spoke with him. The accused was asked to perform field sobriety tests and as a result he was arrested. The accused supplied samples of his breath for chemical testing. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane. He was released to his mother.

At 10:34 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Meadowbrook Road for a family crisis call. The parents and teen-aged child in the house had become involved in an argument that became uncontrollable. After the situation had calmed, the family agreed to work the issue out. At 11:27 p.m., officers were summoned back to the location. Officers Brett Sommer and Manlio Irula and Sgt. Carl LeMarble responded. The parents discussed several options with the officers. The parents again agreed to attempt to resolve the issue without further intervention from the police.

At 9:39 p.m., patrols were dispatched to Meadow Wood Manor on report of a choking male. Upon arrival, patrols were advised that a doctor at the scene had performed the Heimlich maneuver on the victim. The victim still appeared to be in distress. The victim was transported to St. Clare’s Dover campus by Randolph Rescue and provided with advanced life support during transport by the paramedic unit.

At 3:47 p.m., Officer Corey Czerniak and Officer Stephen Zenes responded to a residence on Green Hut Avenue to check on the welfare of the resident there. The resident’s mother had contacted police fearing the victim may be suicidal. The accused did not answer the door for police. When the accused’s mother arrived and let the police into the house, the accused was belligerent and combative toward the officers and her mother. The accused at one point locked herself in a bathroom. Her behavior was such that the decision was made to transport her to St. Clare’s for an evaluation. As the officers attempted to subdue the accused, she became combative and assaulted both officers. She was placed into handcuffs and transported to the hospital by Atlantic Health Care, EMS 9. Due to the accused’s continuing violent actions, Officer Zenes rode to the hospital with the ambulance crew.

At 3:52 p.m., Officer Randy Maccione came upon an older blue Cadillac parked in the lot of the Randolph Diner. The car was filled with personal items and it appeared that the driver may be living in the car. Officer Maccione engaged the driver in conversation at which time the driver did in fact admit he was living in his car. Officer Maccione detected the odor of marijuana coming from the car. The driver was asked if he had drugs in the car which he denied. He was then asked if he had any drug paraphernalia in the car and admitted to having a pipe. Officer Maccione was backed up by Sgt. Jeff Gomez and Officer Mike Gomez. The accused turned over the pipe and was arrested. He was transported to Randolph PD where he was processed and issued a summons charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia and under 50 grams of marijuana. The accused was transported back to his car.

- Charged: Jesse A. Szczubelek, age 23 of Stanhope NJ
At 2:16 a.m., Officer James Cacciabeve observed a vehicle on Route 10 west in the area of Center Grove Road weaving on the roadway. At one point the vehicle came very close to striking the curb on the right side of the road. Officer Cacciabeve initiated a motor vehicle stop at that time. Upon speaking with the accused, Officer Cacciabeve detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the accused’s breath as he spoke. The accused advised Officer Cacciabeve that he had nothing to drink and that he was the designated driver for the night. There were three additional passengers in the car. The accused was asked to perform some field sobriety tests and as a result, he was placed under arrest. He was transported to HQ where he supplied samples of his breath. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane. He was released to a friend.

On the above date, a township resident made a report with Officer Corey Czerniak regarding identity theft. The victim advised that an unknown person had accessed a bank account of his and withdrew money.

At 6:01 a.m., Mr. Michael Bertoloni Jr. of Bernards Bank New York was transported to the Randolph Police Department by the New Jersey State Police after he was stopped on Route 80 and found to have an active warrant out of Island Heights Municipal Court. He posted $228.00 bail and was released.

At 5:24 p.m., Mrs. Jisel Genao of Randolph turned herself in for an active traffic warrant out of Hanover Township. She posted $500.00 bail and was released.

Police were contacted by a resident of Dyer Lane who reported that between 11 p.m. on 3-25-08 and 7 a.m. on 3-26-08 both his vehicles were entered and the GPS units were taken. There were no signs of forced entry on either car.

At 7:00 a.m., police responded to 45 Park Avenue on a complaint of criminal mischief. The complainant stated that between 4:00 p.m. on 3-25-08 and 7:00 a.m. on 3-26-08, an unknown person damaged the air conditioning unit for the building.

Police responded to a residence on Wilkeshire Blvd. at 11:11 p.m. on a report of a family crisis. The parents advised responding officers that their child would not listen to any of the house rules and was threatening them. There were no arrests.

At 9:16 p.m., Randolph Police responded to an apartment in Quaker Village for a domestic dispute. The dispute was verbal in nature and no arrest was made.

A township resident made a report to Officer Michael Kavanaugh regarding the unauthorized use of a debit card. The card was used on several occasions in Randolph.

- Charged: Grace Myrthil, age 48 of Plainfield NJ
On the above date, Det. Keith Donovan and Lt. Donald Smith responded to Woodbridge Township PD to take custody of Ms. Myrthil who had been arrested for outstanding warrants from numerous municipalities. Myrthil was transported to the Morris County Jail and lodged with a $1,000.00 traffic warrant from Randolph Municipal Court.

School Resource Officer Edward Shivas was advised by the administration of the Randolph Middle School that they were starting the process for signing a truancy complaint against the parents of a student who had in excess of 15 unexcused absences since the beginning of the school year. The parents of the student where sent a letter by the Vice Principal advising them that any additional unexcused absences would result in a complaint being signed in the Randolph Municipal Court.

- Charged: 5 male juvenile residents of Randolph NJ, ages 14-17
On 3-15-08 at 4:20 p.m., officers from Randolph PD responded to Brundage Park on a complaint of a person having broken into one of the storage buildings. Upon arrival at the park, Sgt. Scott Arentowicz observed 4 males within the fenced and locked skate park which had been closed under the authority of the Director of Parks and Recreation due to ongoing vandalism. The 4 males were ordered out of the skate park and arrested for defiant trespass as the skate park was closed and the gate was locked. The juveniles had to climb the fence to exit the skate park. One additional individual attempted to evade arrest by hiding behind the equipment in the skate park. Sgt. Arentowicz climbed the fence and arrested this individual. This juvenile was uncooperative with the arresting officers. Several of the juveniles admitted to going inside the storage building. The juveniles were released to their parents.

- Charged: David D. Choe, age 37 of Randolph NJ
On March 8, 2008 Mr. Choe represented himself as an assistant prosecutor with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office in an attempt to thwart the arrest of another individual on a DWI charge. Members of the Randolph Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Unit worked jointly on the case and obtained a search warrant for Mr. Choe’s residence. Subsequently Mr. Choe was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer/public official and hindering the apprehension of another.
