Explorer Post #149

Explorers are young adults who have an interest in law enforcement and are considering a career in this field. They are volunteer, non-paid members of an auxiliary group who provide support to the Randolph Township Police Department and community service to the Township of Randolph.

Participation in this community-based program provides young adults with the opportunity to learn how a law enforcement agency operates. Explorers are provided with basic first-aid and CPR training, as well as instruction in self-defense, motor vehicle stops, traffic direction, radio operations, accident investigations, drill instruction and crime scene safety.

The Explorers develop a close working relationship with the police officers of the Randolph Township Police Department and come to regard them as positive role models and, in some case, mentors.

In the course of promoting responsibility, leadership and honesty, the program also presents an ideal way for participants to gauge the extent of their interest in a future career in law enforcement.

In order to become an Explorer, a young adult must…

  • be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record
  • have parental approval
  • be between the ages of 15 and 21
  • maintain a “C” average
  • pass an oral interview
  • be able to attend two meetings a month
  • complete a six month probationary period
  • abide by post rules
  • present a neat and clean appearance
  • be willing to take responsibility for his/her own actions!
