Flu Vaccination Update (January 15, 2010)
The Randolph Township Health Department will be scheduling additional H1N1 clinics. Details will be posted once dates have been determined.
Our latest H1N1 vaccination clinic took place on Thursday, January 14th between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Randolph Middle School in Randolph. Live attenuated nasal spray and killed injectable were both available. Prior to December 17th, the clinics were only for five priority groups determined by CDC guidelines. These restrictions have been lifted and the H1N1 vaccination is now available for everyone. View complete details and download consent forms »
Influenza is circulating in the United States as well as 150 countries worldwide. Randolph Township is preparing for the 2009-2010 flu season. In addition to seasonal flu vaccine, there will be an H1N1 vaccine available by mid to late October.
Targeted groups for the H1N1 vaccine, up until December 17th, were:
- pregnant women
- household caregivers and contacts of infants under 6 months of age
- children 6 months to 24 years of age
- health care workers
- 24 to 64 year olds with underlying medical conditions
Township officials have been participating in the state and county wide planning process, along with school superintendents and emergency management personnel.
Currently, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services is working on making the vaccine available from both public (i.e., local health agencies) and private (i.e., private physicians) providers. Dates, times and locations of health department clinics may be obtained by calling the Randolph Health Department Flu Hot Line at 973.989.7049. This is an information only line.
The Randolph Health Department continues to emphasize the best preventative practices of washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if sick. We also recommend that everyone receive the seasonal flu vaccine.
