The Environmental Commission lends oversight to the Township Council on matters relating to the protection, development and use of natural resources located within the township. The commission, which considers such factors as water resources management, air pollution control, solid waste management and noise control, maintains an index of all publicly or privately owned open areas. It advises the Planning Board about the development and use of such areas and makes recommendations to the Township Council regarding the acquisition of said properties in support of its goals.
The commission, which is represented on the township’s Open Space Committee, consists of seven regular members plus two alternates. One of the seven regular members is a member of the township’s Planning Board. Regular members serve one, two, or three year terms. Alternates serve two year terms and can only vote in the absence of a regular member.
