The township provides a wide variety of health-related services including Public Health Nursing Services, Environmental Health Activities, Animal Control, Vital Statistics maintenance, and curbside garbage collection through the Department of Health and Construction Codes. These services originate from what is commonly referred to as the Health Department which is headed by a licensed Health Officer who collaborates with a variety of county and state agencies in an effort to keep the community as safe as possible.

Public Health Nursing Services

Personal health services include adult screenings for blood pressure, blood chemistry profile, skin cancer, male and female cancers, well child health clinic, flu immunizations for seniors, health risk appraisals, educational programs, health counseling and referrals.

Environmental Health Activities

Environmental health activities include inspections of food establishments, food vending machines, multiple dwelling rentals, bathing places and campgrounds, as well as the monitoring of solid waste disposal, potable water supply and septic systems. The issuance of permits for fertilizer applications and the licensing of therapeutic massage establishments are also the responsibility of the Health Department.

Animal Control

The township has three Animal Control officers who provide animal rescue and care for sick or abandoned animals. They also operate the Animal Pound (located near the Public Works Garage on Sussex Turnpike) and oversee the operation of the Dog Park, conduct free rabies immunization clinics and are responsible for issuing dog and cat licenses. For in-depth information, please see the Animal Control link under the “For Residents” section of our navigation menu.

Vital Statistics

All births, deaths, marriages and civil unions occurring within the township are recorded by the Registrar of Vital Statistics. If you’re getting married, entering into a civil union, need to register a domestic partnership or would like to obtain certified copies of any of the documents maintained by the Registrar, please see the choices available under the Vital Statistics link in the “For Residents” section of our navigation menu.
