Environmental & Landmark Committee

Overview

The advisory Environmental and Landmark Committee consists of seven regular members and two alternates, appointed by the township council. Alternates can only vote in the absence of a regular member.

The committee is empowered to conduct research relating to the protection, development, and use of open space and natural resources within the township and the protection, enhancement, and preservation of township sites and structures with historical, architectural, or cultural significance. The committee may also make recommendations to the township council, planning board, and other township agencies regarding the same.

The committee maintains a list of all open space areas and natural resources, whether publicly or privately owned, and all sites and structures with historical, architectural, or cultural significance located within the township. It also processes applications for the designation of landmarks and landmark sites. All recommendations of the committee regarding the designation of landmarks and landmark sites are subject to approval by the township council.
