[ARCHIVED] NJ TRANSIT Rail Disruption Expected Starting May 16

NJ Transit Rails

Please be advised that NJ TRANSIT engineers, represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), are poised to initiate a strike as early as 12:01 AM on Friday, May 16, 2025. This action would result in the complete suspension of all NJ TRANSIT rail services, including Metro-North Railroad services west of the Hudson River.

To help ease the burden, NJ TRANSIT has released a limited contingency plan. However, the alternative services will only be able to accommodate about 20% of regular rail customers, making travel delays and crowding likely. Commuters are strongly urged to work from home if possible and limit NJ TRANSIT travel to essential needs only.

The contingency plan includes enhanced service on select NYC-bound NJ TRANSIT bus routes near rail stations, as well as temporary Park & Ride bus service beginning Monday, May 19. Buses will run weekdays only during morning and evening peak hours from four locations: Secaucus Junction, Hamilton Station, Woodbridge Center Mall, and the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. View the NJ Transit times of operation chart here. Note: NJ TRANSIT tickets will not be accepted on Academy Bus service from Holmdel.

All other NJ TRANSIT bus routes, light rail lines, and Access Link services will continue operating on normal schedules. Cross-honoring of rail tickets will be in place for NJ TRANSIT buses and light rail, but not for Amtrak, PATH, MTA, ferries, or private bus lines.

Fare information, Park & Ride schedules, and bus boarding locations are available at www.njtransit.com/railstoppage.

Commuters are urged to regularly check the NJ Transit website for updates.
