Leaf Collection Update—December 14, 2018
The DPW has been able to catch up on leaf collection. They anticipate completing District 3 later today. They are in the home stretch of the collection, so please put your leaves out. District 4 will begin on Monday, December 17, 2018.

Leaf Collection and Placement of Leaves
The engineering department has received complaints about residents/landscapers putting leaves at the curb earlier than 7 days prior to the scheduled pick-up dates. It is important that all residents/landscapers comply with these guidelines as the NJDEP has strict stormwater regulations regarding leaves getting into township catch basins. A notice will be put in the mailbox of any resident who does not adhere to these requirements. If the notice goes unaddressed, the health department will be notified and a summons may be issued to the resident.

The public works department will begin the township’s annual leaf collection program at the end of October. The anticipated collection schedule has been pushed back one week.

Residents are urged to dispose of leaves on their own properties whenever possible. Blowing leaves into wooded areas, placing leaves on acid loving plants such as pachysandra, or creating backyard compost piles will have the effect of minimizing costs associated with the curbside collection of leaves.

Residents, landscapers, contractors and lawn services may place loose leaves at the curb (not in the road or gutter) no earlier than seven days prior to their scheduled collection date. Leaves need to be placed curb side prior to the Saturday in which your district is scheduled for pickup.

The township will be enforcing its yard waste ordinance with written warnings and summonses. Residents using private contractors are reminded that they must inform their contractors of the regulatory elements of the township’s curbside leaf collection policy.

  • Loose leaves must be placed at the curb, not in the road or gutter.
  • The placement of the leaves should not take place any earlier than seven days prior to the resident’s scheduled collection date.
  • Leaves should only be placed in locations on the property ten or more feet from any storm sewer inlet on the street.
  • Only leaves should be placed at the curb. To avoid damage to the leaf collection equipment, brush, grass, rocks and any other materials should never be included with the leaves.

Please try to coordinate your yard raking with the schedule which follows to avoid having leaves in the gutter for extended periods of time.

For any residents wishing to bag their leaves in biodegradable bags and place them curbside, the Randolph Township Department of Public Works will pick them up on Mondays. This applies to bagged leaves only. Please contact the engineering department at 973.989.7066 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this e-mail address) by 3:30 p.m. on the prior Friday to be placed on the pick-up list. Plastic bags will not be collected, only biodegradable leaf bags which are available at many garden centers.
