Second Annual Timmerman/Verduga Memorial Golf Classic
Posted: April 23, 2016
The Second Annual Timmerman/Verduga Golf Classic is set for Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Black Oak Golf Club in Long Valley, NJ.
The event will honor Jack Timmerman and Calvin Verduga, athletes and students at Randolph High School who were actively involved in the community. Their lives were cut short, but their commitment to volunteering and excellence lives on.
The cost is $200 per golfer and includes a continental breakfast and barbecue lunch.
Funds raised will support the work of Beyond the Walls, a Mendham-based nonprofit, among the scavengers of the Guatemala City garbage dump where Jack and his family served, as well as the Native Americans who live on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
Last year’s event funded a concrete-block home for a scavenger family in the Guatemala City garbage dump community. Calvin’s mother, Alma, and his sister, Tiffany, were able to help with the construction of that house. Within moments of arriving on the construction site, Alma learned that the family whose home was to be dedicated to Jack and Calvin had also lost their 17-year-old son in an accident the previous summer.
