New CSI Class Offered This March:

The Randolph Township Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is pleased to announce the arrival of a new class offering this March—Crime Scene Investigation (CSI).

This CSI class, geared towards students in 6th through 12th grade, will meet Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the community center on Calais Road. The class fee is $95.00 for Randolph children and $105.00 for non-resident children.

Taught by a former Atlantic County detective, students will learn and work a mock crime scene investigation from the beginning of the investigation/crime scene, all the way through to the investigation’s end, culminating with a mock trial.

Students will learn the importance of the most recent, state of the art technologies including procedures in collecting and processing many different types of evidence. They will also learn the importance of documentation and processing evidence. Many topics will be covered in this class including crime scene reconstruction, fingerprint classification, lifting fingerprints at the crime scene, classifying those prints and comparing them to a suspect(s). The class will also examine shoe print patterns, blood splatter analysis, DNA electrophoresis, basic chemistry, courtroom procedures and the basics of testifying in an investigation from both the defense’s and prosecution’s perspective.
