An Updated Message from Mayor Carey—August 7

Dear Randolph Residents,

As we head into the weekend, many residents in Randolph remain without power due to the damage caused by Tropical Storm Isaias, which brought up to 7 inches of rain and wind gusts of up to 65 mph to New Jersey. Once again, today township staff and officials have focused all of our efforts on assisting residents and getting power restored to our community.

JCP&L has brought in crews from out-of-state to help restore power to our area. I’m sure you have seen many of them in Randolph. I personally met crews from West Virginia and Ohio who are committed to helping New Jersey get back to normal. Throughout the state, JCP&L has 6,500 employees and contractors working on this recovery effort.

Today, some sections of Randolph that had up to now been unaffected, lost power. This is unfortunate, but a temporary situation while crews work in certain areas. As of this morning, there were still approximately 5,500 residences in Randolph without power. JCP&L has estimated and is working toward a goal of having power restored to 2,000 of those homes by end of day today and to another 2,000 homes on Saturday. They will continue to work around the clock and through the weekend to get power back on in Randolph.

I have had a chance to speak to many residents today who are doing their best to stay positive during this time. Of course they are experiencing difficulties and frustrations. I am very sorry, but we do not have information to provide about when power will be restored to specific addresses.

As you know, many trees and branches came down during the storm and residents have inquired about branch pickup. Please place branches at the curb and crews from the public works department will be picking them up along all township streets. This collection may take several weeks to complete due to the significant volume of damaged trees and there will be more than one collection per house if needed.
