Trail Wayfinding and Signage Implementation Day
Posted: April 12, 2019
Randolph Township will be holding a Trail Wayfinding and Signage Implementation Day on Saturday, May 4, 2019. This volunteer opportunity will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Freedom Park. The rain date is May 11, 2019.
Wayfinding and signage improvements for Randolph’s trail network were studied by the environmental consulting and energy asset management firm, Greener by Design (GbD). GbD completed the Randolph Trails Master Plan (RTMP) (44,000 KB) in September of 2017, which detailed the opportunities and weaknesses of the existing trail network. This plan is supported by several months of stakeholder engagement, research, trail site visits and inventory analysis.
The RTMP concluded with several recommendations, one of which was to improve the trail network’s wayfinding and signage. Trail users wanted to more easily navigate to and from destinations, track their mileage and know their exact location while in the woods. The Randolph Trails Committee approved this initiative in the fall of 2018 and has been preparing for implementation, in collaboration with the Randolph Township Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, the municipal staff, and GbD ever since.
Wayfinding and signage improvements are already underway, as new signs, trailheads, bollards and trail posts have already been purchased. The Trail Wayfinding and Signage Implementation Day is soliciting individual volunteers and volunteer groups to help drive posts into the ground and ensure proper signage. The task should not take more than a few hours to complete.
